The theatrical release of Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay’s much-anticipated film Jana Nayagan has been postponed at the last moment, causing disappointment among fans across Tamil Nadu.
The film was originally scheduled to hit theaters on January 9, but the makers confirmed that it could not obtain its censor certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in time. With no clearance secured ahead of release, the producers were forced to delay the film.
In a bid to resolve the issue, the makers approached the Madras High Court seeking urgent relief. However, the court did not grant permission, leaving the release stalled just hours before the planned premiere.
The postponement has sparked strong reactions from fans, as Jana Nayagan is expected to be Thalapathy Vijay’s final film before his full-time entry into politics. Social media platforms saw an outpouring of disappointment, with many expressing frustration over the sudden delay.
The film’s producers have stated that a new release date will be announced soon once the certification process is completed.
Meanwhile, the delay has opened up a key release window at the box office. Malayalam film Pennu Case has moved quickly to capitalize on the vacant slot and is now scheduled to release on January 10, benefiting from the absence of a major Tamil release.
