Mumbai  : T20 World Cup 2024 is to be organized in America and West Indies immediately after IPL 2024. For this, the Indian selectors are keeping a close eye on the players of the team. It is believed that the Indian team will be selected on the basis of performance in IPL. There were reports that the selectors may take some tough decisions for this global tournament and it will not be possible for some big players to make a place in the team. However, according to the report, the selectors are currently in a mood to make major changes in the team for the T20 World Cup. It is believed that BCCI may announce the Indian team by the end of April 2024.

Indian wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant, who returned to the cricket field from IPL after 15 months due to serious injury in a car accident, has moved ahead in the race for a place in the team for the T20 World Cup. According to media reports, his performance in the current season of IPL has given him an edge over his rivals. It is believed that the Indian team management is satisfied that Pant is now fully ready to return to the Indian team. If he does not flop in the tournament, Pant will travel to America and West Indies for the T20 World Cup.

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, who has held several selection meetings as the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), was asked whether Pant is expected to make a place in the Indian team for the T20 World Cup. On this he had said that it is necessary that Pant plays some more matches so that he will get more opportunity to adapt to competitive cricket. Ganguly had said, Pant is completely fit and is in great form. He is playing his role well behind the wicket and in batting, but he needs to be allowed to play a few more matches. If the national selectors want to pick Pant, I will be able to say something about him in the next few weeks.

There are many options for every position in the Indian team, but there are many contenders for wicketkeeping. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see which player the selectors choose for this place. If we talk about Pant’s performance in the current season of IPL, he has so far scored two half-centuries in five matches.

Even though Rishabh Pant has returned to the cricket field after 15 months, he is not yet back in the Indian team. If Pant is included in the Indian team for the T20 World Cup, it will be after more than 500 days that he will be seen in the national team jersey. Pant played his last match for India against Bangladesh in Mirpur on 22 December 2022. It was a test match and soon after he was seriously injured in an accident.

One name which is being discussed the most is that of Indian team’s star batsman Virat Kohli. Some reports said that Kohli is not in the race for a place in the Indian team for the T20 World Cup and the task of convincing him has been entrusted to chief selector Ajit Agarkar. However, Kohli’s bat is performing well in the IPL and he has scored two half-centuries and one century so far. According to media reports, it is now almost certain that Kohli will join the Indian team for this global tournament. He has scored 316 runs in five matches in the current season of IPL. He is currently the highest run scorer in the league. However, questions are constantly being raised on his strike rate.

There is also a strong discussion going on about how the selectors will manage Shubman Gill. It is believed that Yashasvi Jaiswal will come to open with captain Rohit Sharma, while Kohli will come at number three. In such a situation, what will happen to Shubman Gill? Will they be excluded? Similarly, there is doubt regarding spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. Chahal is performing brilliantly in the current season of IPL, but he is facing tough competition from Chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav, who will not be able to play some matches for Delhi Capitals due to injury. At the same time, another spinner Akshar Patel is also a contender for a place in the team.

Apart from these, Suryakumar Yadav, Rinku Singh are also included. Talking about fast bowlers, the claims of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj and Arshdeep Singh seem strong. However, the way the new speed sensation Lucknow Supergiants fast bowler Mayank Yadav has impressed in IPL 2024, he seems to be emerging rapidly as the third fast bowler. Mayank is currently injured, but is in the selector’s eyes.
