Trinidad : Threat of terrorist attack during T20 World Cup 2024 has been received from North Pakistan. According to media reports, Pro Islamic State (IS) has planned to carry out attacks during sporting events. A video message has been released from the Afghanistan-Pakistan branch of IS Khorasan in which it talked about carrying out attacks in many countries and appealed to the supporters to join it.
Jonny Graves, CEO of T20 World Cup co-host Cricket West Indies, has completely dismissed security concerns amid the threat of a terrorist attack. “We are working closely with host country and city officials to look at and move forward with a comprehensive strategy to address any threats,” Graves said. We would like to assure all partners that the safety of everyone involved in the T20 World Cup is our top priority. We have a comprehensive and robust security plan.
Caribbean media quoted Trinidad’s Prime Minister Keith Rowley as saying that security agencies are capable of dealing with any threat given the match. The T20 World Cup matches are to be played in many places in the West Indies starting from June. Barbados, Guyana, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Vincent, Saint Lucia, Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago are to host the matches of this global tournament.
For this, many teams have also announced the names of their players and preparations for the tournament have reached the final stage. The shadow of a terrorist attack has loomed over the tournament and West Indies have received a warning of an attack during the T20 World Cup. However, Cricket West Indies has assured security.
