Syria Joins Global Anti-ISIS Coalition as 90th Member, Vows to Curb Terror Networks and Foreign Fighters

Washington, D.C. | November 11, 2025Syria has officially joined the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, becoming its 90th member and signaling renewed international alignment against terrorism.

According to a senior US official, Damascus will cooperate with coalition partners to eliminate remaining ISIS strongholds and block the flow of foreign fighters through its borders — a move expected to bolster ongoing regional counterterrorism operations.

“Syria’s inclusion marks a pivotal moment in the global effort to ensure ISIS cannot regroup or threaten regional stability,” the official said, emphasizing the coalition’s commitment to coordinated intelligence sharing and operational support.

The coalition, formed in 2014 and led by the United States, includes a diverse mix of nations working to dismantle ISIS networks, cut off funding channels, and stabilize liberated territories across the Middle East and Africa.

Analysts note that Syria’s decision to participate represents a strategic realignment amid shifting power balances in the region. The move may also help reintegrate Damascus into select international frameworks, though questions remain about implementation and trust-building between coalition partners.

Since its peak in 2015, ISIS has lost the vast majority of its territory, yet isolated cells continue to operate in parts of Syria and Iraq, prompting renewed global cooperation to prevent a resurgence.

Experts suggest that Syria’s participation could enhance border surveillance, strengthen intelligence coordination, and support humanitarian efforts in areas previously held by the extremist group.
