New Delhi : The Supreme Court expressed its dissatisfaction with the West Bengal government’s slow progress in installing CCTV cameras in hospitals and building necessary facilities such as toilets and separate restrooms. The court set a deadline of October 15 for the state government to complete these works. The matter arose in the context of a case initiated suo motu (on its own) by the Supreme Court, focusing on issues related to the tragic case of a deceased trainee doctor.

The court reiterated its previous order, directing that no arbitral forums or other entities are allowed to disclose the name or photograph of the victim involved in the case. The bench, which included Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala, and Justice Manoj Mishra, heard arguments presented by lawyer Vrinda Grover. She highlighted the distress caused to the victim’s family due to the repeated sharing of her identity on social media.

While the court reaffirmed that enforcement of its earlier order lies with the law enforcement agencies, it clarified that the order applies universally across all arbitral forums.

Regarding the ongoing investigation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has reportedly found substantial evidence related to both the alleged rape and murder, as well as financial irregularities at RG Kar Hospital. The court sought information from Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the CBI, about the hospital employees implicated in these irregularities. The information is to be shared with the state government for further action.
