Disney has officially announced a new live-action Star Wars television series titled “The Old Republic,” expanding the franchise far beyond the timeline of the Skywalker saga.
According to the announcement, the series will be set thousands of years before the events of the original films, exploring an era long celebrated in Star Wars lore for its ancient Jedi, Sith conflicts, and galactic power struggles. The project marks one of the most ambitious timeline shifts ever attempted in a live-action Star Wars production.
Sources familiar with the development say Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves is currently in talks to portray Darth Revan, one of the most iconic and complex characters in the franchise’s expanded universe. While no casting deal has been finalized, the possibility has sparked massive excitement among fans online.
The series will be produced under the supervision of Star Wars creative executive Dave Filoni, whose recent projects have played a major role in shaping the franchise’s television success. Production is expected to begin in March this year, according to studio officials.
Following the announcement, social media platforms were flooded with reactions from fans welcoming the move into the Old Republic era, with many calling it a long-awaited expansion of the cinematic universe.
Disney has not yet revealed a release date, episode count, or additional cast details.
