Sri Lanka’s new President Anura Kumara Disanayake has said this during an interview. He said that he would not like to be a sandwich between India and China. Along with this, he clarified that Sri Lanka does not want to be caught in the battle for dominance going on in the world. He said that we will neither join the race for dominance nor will we support any country involved in this race. Without naming India and China, he said that both the countries are our good friends. On this basis, I am hopeful that our partnership will be good in the future.
Sri Lanka’s new President Disanayake said that he will maintain better relations with the European Union, Middle East and Africa. Regarding foreign policy, Disanayake said that Sri Lanka’s foreign policy will be impartial. It is worth noting that Sri Lanka’s new President Disanayake is of leftist ideology. Past experiences show that he has also been a critic of India.
Therefore, after he became the President, there were apprehensions that he would get closer to China and support China instead of India in global affairs. Now since he himself has openly expressed his opinion in all these matters and has clearly said that he is not going in favor of anyone, there is hope that his relations with India will also remain better.
