The Congress on Thursday lauded party interim chief Sonia Gandhi’s participation in the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ from Jakkanahalli to Karadya in Karnataka, saying her presence would help strengthen the party.
Party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said on Twitter, “Congress President Sonia Gandhi, along with Rahul Gandhi and pedestrians walked between Jakkanahalli and Karadya in Mandya district.
His program was only 30 minutes. She accompanied the Bharat Jodo Yatra for 2 hours to support the people of Karnataka and in turn strengthen our resolve.
Rahul Gandhi, who is leading the yatra, said that Sonia Gandhi has always worked to strengthen democracy. She went on to defend these principles. I am proud to walk with them.
Meanwhile, pictures of Rahul Gandhi tying Sonia’s shoelaces went viral. On this, political analyst Sudheendra Kulkarni said, this is Indian culture. Millions of Indians, who are not Congress supporters today, will start praising Rahul Gandhi after his Bharat Jodo Yatra.
Congress general secretary organization K.C. Venugopal tweeted, “Giving a huge impetus to the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi joined the Yatra today. His arrival caused a wave of excitement in the crowd. His presence alone is going to energize the common man and strengthen the resolve of Rahul Gandhi and the passengers.
In view of Vijayadashami and Dussehra festival, after a gap of two days, the India Jodi Yatra resumed from Mandya district.
Sonia Gandhi had reached Mysore on Monday and stayed at a resort near the backwaters of Kabini.
To counter the padyatra, the ruling BJP has planned several tours and conferences across the state.
On Thursday morning, the yatra started from Pandavapura and will end at Chowdenahalli Gate in Mandya district.
The Bharat Jodo Yatra, which has entered the seventh day, is scheduled for 21 days, during which it will cover a distance of 511 km.
After covering Chamarajanagar, Mysore districts, the Yatra entered Mandya district. PLC/GT
