Dhaka: Former Bangladesh Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina has declared her intention to return to Bangladesh, directly challenging Nobel laureate and interim government advisor Mohammad Yunus. In a message delivered via social media to supporters and families of party leaders, Hasina alleged that members of her Awami League party are being systematically targeted, calling for justice and accountability.

“Allah has kept me alive for a reason, and the day will come when justice is served,” Hasina said, referencing ongoing political violence in the country.

In a pointed critique, Sheikh Hasina accused Mohammad Yunus of exploiting the poor through microfinance schemes. “They lent small amounts at high interest and used that money to live luxuriously abroad,” she said, claiming that such models did not bring real benefit to the public.

She went on to describe Bangladesh as a country facing rising violence and censorship. “Our leaders and workers are being killed… Police, lawyers, journalists, artists—everyone is under attack,” she added, also criticizing media suppression. “If rape, murder, or robbery are reported, the TV channels and newspapers face threats,” Hasina said.

The former Prime Minister also reflected on her personal tragedies, stating, “I lost my father, mother, and brothers in one day. They didn’t let us return to the country. I understand the pain of losing loved ones.”

She ended her remarks by vowing to return and ensure justice for the people of Bangladesh, underlining her enduring political resolve amid the country’s current unrest.
