Security beefed up in Bihar ahead of PM’s Visit

Patna police has made elaborate security arrangement for Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is scheduled to arrive in Patna on July 25 where he is to hold meetings at two places before flying to Muzaffarpur where he is to kick – off poll campaign for the upcoming Assembly elections in Bihar.

On Thursday, top police officials held a high level meeting to cover all aspects of the security details that includes more than 5,000 armed policemen to keep an eye on all activities between the airport and Veterinary College playground and later his drive from the Veterinary College to the S. K. Memorial Hall at the eastern end of the city.

After finishing his business in the state capital, Modi will fly to Muzaffarpur in a helicopter where he will address a large crowd at the Chakkar Maidan. Optionally, in case of any technical problem with the chopper, authorities have declared the 80-kilometer drive from Patna to Muzaffarpur off limit to the public in the event the PM had to go by road,” the SSP said adding armed jawans will be deployed by the side of the highway to keep the PM’s motorcade moving smoothly and safely.invcnewspatna

Earlier, officials combed the Veterinary College ground and Gandhi Maidan for any explosives to avoid October 27, 2013 type of serial blasts during Modi’s Hunkar Rally in Patna.

Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vikas Vaibhav, talking to the reporters, said that during the entire duration of the Prime Minister’s stay in Patna, flights coming to and taking off from the Patna Airport would remain suspended. All the roads between the airport and Gandhi Maidan will be sealed two hours prior to the landing of Modi’s flight from Delhi and would be monitored closely on specially-installed closed circuit televisions to ensure the safety of the Prime Minister, he said.

The Prime Minister’s special aircraft is to arrive in Patna at around 10:15 am and he will leave for Delhi at 4:30 pm.

Ambulances, anti-riot vehicles, and snipers on all tall buildings near the PM’s venues will be deployed throughout the PM’s stay in the state capital, officials said adding all hotels between Bailey Road and Gandhi Maidan would be checked and guests’ identifications verified to further enhance the security of the Prime Minister.

The district administration of Patna as well as  Muzaffarpur has intensified security check in and around the state capital Patna and Muzaffarpur to prevent any untoward incident before PM’s visit.

The district police have stepped up vigil around the important city landmarks such as Mahavir Mandir, Takht Shri Harmandirji Sahib, Bus Stands, Taxi Stands, Railway Stations, Airport , Hotels and Marketplaces. Over 3,000 policemen in uniform as well as in mufti would be on duty at various points. Quick reaction teams along with sniffer dogs , bomb disposal and medical support squads will also remain on standby around the scheduled venues.
