Mauritius : India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar arrived in Mauritius on a two-day visit on Tuesday for special and beneficial talks under the Neighbourhood First policy. He will meet Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jagannath and senior leaders here to strengthen trade and relations between the two countries. Mauritius Foreign Minister Manish Gobin welcomed him at the airport. India-Mauritius relations have always been strong. The biggest reason for this is that 70 percent of Mauritius’ total population of 1.2 million are of Indian origin. While 28 percent people are Creole and three percent people are Chinese Mauritian and one percent people are Franco Mauritian.
India has always helped Mauritius in times of crisis. India was Mauritius’s biggest helper during the COVID-19 and oil spill crisis. In April-May 2020, at the request of the Mauritian government, India sent 13 tonnes of medicines, 10 tonnes of Ayurvedic medicines and an Indian Rapid Response Medical Team to Mauritius to deal with the epidemic. Now once again India has taken a big step to strengthen bilateral relations with Mauritius, an island in the Indian Ocean region. Manifesting his commitment to the First Neighbor Policy, Vision Sagar and the Global South, India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar reached Mauritius. After reaching Mauritius on Tuesday, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar posted on Instagram with a photo, ‘Namaste Mauritius! Thank you Foreign Minister Manish Gobin for the welcome.

At the same time, Gobin, responding to his post, wrote that Jaishankar’s visit reflects the strong and lasting relationship between the two countries. Both countries will together find better ways to strengthen their relationship and cooperation. During his visit, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will hold bilateral meetings with Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jagannath and senior ministers of the Mauritius government.
The Ministry of External Affairs said that this visit is an opportunity to know various aspects and maintain relations between the two countries. Let us tell you that recently Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jagannath attended the swearing-in ceremony of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Council of Ministers. At the same time, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has visited Mauritius for the first time after the third term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Earlier he visited Mauritius in February 2021.
