New York, Sept 28:
Amid ongoing US tariff tensions, Russia and China have once again expressed support for India on the global stage, endorsing its inclusion as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). The announcement came during a BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly in New York.

Russia and China Advocate Greater Inclusiveness

  • Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov emphasized that India, Brazil, and African nations should have permanent representation in the UNSC, citing their large populations and significant global influence.

  • China echoed these sentiments, stressing that greater inclusivity in the Security Council is essential for maintaining international peace and stability.

“Countries with large populations and global impact must have a voice in the Security Council to ensure peace and fairness in international affairs,” Lavrov said.

India, China, and Russia: A Strong Alliance

  • This move reflects a growing geopolitical alignment among India, China, and Russia, highlighted during the recent G-20 summit, where PM Narendra Modi, President Vladimir Putin, and President Xi Jinping were photographed together, capturing global attention.

Bhutan Supports India’s Bid

  • Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay also voiced support for India’s permanent seat, stating:

“Increasing representation in the UN Security Council is the need of the hour. Countries like India and Japan should be included as permanent members to reflect global realities.”

In summary: Russia, China, and Bhutan have all called for expanded representation in the UN Security Council, bolstering India’s bid for permanent membership. This move could reshape global diplomacy amid US protectionist policies and evolving geopolitical alliances.
