New Delhi, April 1, 2025: In a significant move, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has signaled its active participation in the Kashi and Mathura temple movement. Dattatreya Hosabale, the Sarkaryavah (General Secretary) of RSS, has confirmed that the organization will allow its workers to take an active role in this cause in the near future. This announcement is expected to bring a new wave of energy to the ongoing discussions surrounding the Kashi and Mathura temples.
In a detailed conversation with the Kannada magazine Vikram, Hosabale also discussed several other crucial matters, including his support for the three-language policy. He expressed confidence that this policy could resolve 95% of India’s language disputes and called for its widespread adoption across the country.
Preserving Indian Languages and Promoting Employment: Hosabale’s Vision
Hosabale further emphasized the importance of preserving Indian languages. He pointed out that significant literary work has been done in multiple regional languages, which holds great value for future generations. However, he warned that without encouraging younger generations to read and write in these languages, their cultural and intellectual growth would be stunted.
He acknowledged that many people gravitate towards English due to practical reasons but stressed the need for creating an economic model where individuals educated in Indian languages can find suitable employment opportunities. According to Hosabale, the collective effort of intellectuals, judges, teachers, writers, and political leaders is crucial to push for a progressive and inclusive attitude toward language preservation.
Addressing the Temple Issue: RSS Stance on Kashi, Mathura, and Ram Janmabhoomi
Hosabale reflected on the historical significance of the three temples (including the Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya), mentioning that in 1984, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), along with saints and sadhus, raised the issue of these temples. He affirmed that if a section of RSS volunteers wishes to rally behind the cause of the Kashi and Mathura temples, they would not be stopped. However, Hosabale also cautioned against the large-scale debate over mosques and urged the need to avoid social divisions.
Impact on Future Movements
The announcement has sparked widespread debate, with the RSS’s involvement likely to shape the course of future movements related to the Kashi and Mathura temples. As the country’s most influential social organization, RSS’s active engagement could play a pivotal role in the ongoing discussions surrounding religious sites in India.
