Pristina, November 11: Legendary Hollywood actor Robert De Niro is set to star in a new historical drama centered on the Kosovo War genocide, a project already drawing major global attention. Filming has officially begun in Kosovo’s capital, Pristina, making it one of the region’s largest-ever international film productions.
Titled tentatively as “Echoes of Silence”, the film explores the human toll of the 1998–99 Kosovo conflict, focusing on stories of loss, survival, and justice amid the atrocities that unfolded. De Niro will reportedly portray a war crimes investigator seeking truth and accountability in post-war Europe.
The production features 71 Hollywood actors, including several Academy Award winners and emerging European talents. The project’s scale and theme have already propelled #KosovoFilm into global trends across X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram.
“This film is not just a story — it’s a reminder of what humanity must never repeat,” De Niro said in a statement shared by the producers.
The film is being produced in collaboration with both Kosovo’s Ministry of Culture and international partners, with on-location shoots planned across Pristina, Mitrovica, and Peja.
Director Michael Andrews, known for his work on The Last Frontier and Echo of Freedom, said the script has been in development for over five years, with an emphasis on authentic survivor narratives and historical accuracy.
The movie aims to debut at the Cannes Film Festival 2026, with global distributors already expressing interest in theatrical and OTT releases.
