A Regina business owner is not about to change the company name — Isis — just because it also happens to be an acronym for an extremist group that has been in the news recently for a number of atrocities.

Lori Pawson, owner of Isis Salon and Day Spa, told  she has received a phone calls and emails asking if her business is associated with ISIS.

The acronym stands for Islamic State in Iraq and Syria used by militants fighting to establish an Islamist state. Pawson’s salon, on the other hand, is named for an Egyptian goddess.

“I don’t regret the name Isis because I believe that the Isis goddess stands for and represents something beautiful,” Pawson told. “She stands for the goddess of all goddesses, the caregiver of all. We named our salon that so that we could give that to our clients — that we care for them and that they will be treated like a god or a goddess when they come in.”

The Isis spa has been open for just over a year and Pawson said the name association has not affected the business.
