Texas : Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi is currently on a tour of America. On Sunday, he interacted with students at the University of Texas. During this, he fiercely targeted the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Rahul Gandhi said, ‘RSS believes that India is an idea. At the same time, we believe that India is a plurality of ideas. We believe that everyone should be allowed to participate, allowed to dream and given a place regardless of their caste, language, religion, tradition or history. This is a fight and this fight became more clear in the elections when millions of people of India clearly understood that the Prime Minister of India is attacking the Constitution of India.’
Rahul Gandhi said, ‘Whatever I have told you, it is all in the Constitution. The foundation of modern India is the Constitution. What people clearly understood in the election and I saw was that when I raised the issue of the Constitution, people understood what I was saying. They were saying that the BJP is attacking our tradition, attacking our language, attacking our states, attacking our history.’
Rahul Gandhi said, ‘Most importantly, what they understood was that whoever is attacking the Constitution of India is also attacking our religious tradition. So in my first speech in Parliament I talked about Abhayamudra. It is a symbol of fearlessness and it is present in every single Indian religion. When I was saying this, the BJP could not tolerate it. They do not understand and we are going to explain it to them.’
‘Fear of BJP disappeared’ Attacking the BJP, the Leader of Opposition said, ‘The second thing that happened was that the fear of the BJP disappeared. We saw that immediately after the election results, within a few minutes, no one in India was afraid of the BJP or the Prime Minister of India. So these are great achievements, not of Rahul Gandhi or the Congress party. This is a great achievement of the people of India, who understood democracy, who understood that we are not going to accept an attack on our Constitution. We are not going to accept an attack on our religion, our state. About the Indian immigrants living in America, he said that when they came to this country from India, they came with the values of the Constitution, respect and humility. He said that Indians came to live in America with love and affection.
He said, ‘I am talking to people in Dallas and who are you? You are people who have come from India and the values that I am describing – the values of the Constitution, the values of respect, the values of humility. You keep them in your heart, all this is in your blood. So, when you came to this country, you did not come with arrogance, you came with humility, you did not come with hatred, you came with love and affection, you did not come with disrespect. ‘
