Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi arrived in Punjab today to review the flood situation and meet affected families. He landed at Sri Guru Ramdas International Airport, Amritsar, and will be visiting villages in Ajnala, Ramdas, and Gurdaspur.
Rahul Gandhi has expressed deep concern over the devastating floods in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, and Punjab. Taking to social media, he appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to announce a comprehensive relief package and initiate strong rehabilitation measures for the affected population.
Direct Village Visits Instead of Aerial Survey
Unlike the usual aerial surveys, Rahul Gandhi has chosen to directly interact with people on the ground. He will visit flood-hit villages in Dera Baba Nanak’s Gurchakk and Dinanagar’s Makoda Pattan, where he will listen to the grievances of local families and farmers.
Senior Punjab Congress leaders including Pratap Singh Bajwa, Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly, and Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, MP from Gurdaspur, stated that Rahul Gandhi’s decision reflects his intent to “see the problems of the people with his own eyes and hear their pain directly.”
Political Criticism
Meanwhile, political rivals did not miss the opportunity to attack him. Ravneet Singh Bittu, former Ludhiana MP and Union Minister of State, mocked Rahul Gandhi’s Punjab visit, alleging that he was “holidaying in Malaysia” when the floods struck. Bittu claimed that Gandhi’s tour was more about “political drama” than genuine concern.
