Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated his openness to engaging in potential talks with newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump to end the ongoing war with Ukraine. According to media reports, Putin emphasized that he is prepared to negotiate on the issue of Ukraine and that he has no preconditions for initiating discussions with Ukrainian officials. In addition, Putin addressed the situation in Syria.

He remarked that earlier this month, rebel factions succeeded in overthrowing his ally and the long-time ruler of Syria, Bashar al-Assad. Despite this event, Putin firmly rejected the notion that Russia had been defeated in Syria. He further stated that although he has not yet met with the former Syrian leader, he is “certainly” planning to engage with Assad and intends to meet him in Moscow. It is important to note that Russia has granted political asylum to Assad.
