Punjab Strongly Refutes Jakhar’s Contention Regarding Wrong Statement In Supreme Court

The Punjab Government today refuted the claim of Mr. Sunil Jakhar, Leader of Congress Legislative Party that any misstatement was made to the Hon’ble Supreme Court. The Government spokesman stated that Police Security Board (Commission) was constituted on 17.4.2008. It held its first meeting on 1.1.2009. The same was chaired by the Chief Minister and attended by Mr. N.P.S. Aulakh, IPS, the then DGP, Mr. R.I. Singh, IAS, the then Chief Secretary and Mr. Sudhir Mittal, IAS the then Principal Secretary Home. Its proceedings were put up before the Hon’ble Supreme Court vide Annexure R-1 by the State, in affidavit filed on 3.5.2009. As far as the Police Establishment Board (Committee) is concerned the State Government intimated that the Punjab Police Act, 2007 provides for its creation in section 32. A similar provision in the Act (Section 54) provides for the Police Complaints Authority. The Spokesman reiterated that there was no question of stating anything false in any affidavit and the Government exercises its constitutional obligation with a complete sense of responsibility.
