The Punjab government has asked all government and aided technical institutes in the state to construct hostels for SC/ST students in their respective institutions availing the facilities provided All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Disclosing this here today an official spokesman said that AICTE has come out with a scheme for government and aided institutes, approved by AICTE with more than 150 SC and ST students on its roll to provide funding of Rs. 2 crore for construction of hostels. He said that this step has been taken to enhance the enrollment of SC/ST students as well as to improve the quality of education and research capabilities. The spokesman said that all eligible institutes have been directed to avail the scheme for immediate implementation.
