Moscow. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko held a press conference on Wednesday late evening following the mutiny and settlement of Russia’s private army Wagner. According to the New York Times, he told that when Wagner’s rebellion was at its peak, Putin had also asked him to have Prigogine killed. However, Lukashenko told him not to take any decision in haste, then the agreement was reached.

During the phone call, Lukashenko appealed to try for peace instead of confrontation. At the same time, Wagner Chief Yevgeny Prigogine reached Belarus on 27 June. President Lukashenko confirmed this. Russia has also dropped all cases against Prigogine. Russia’s Defense Ministry has said that preparations are underway to withdraw the Wagner Group’s major weapons and hardware under the deal.(  PLC/GT )
