Premier Christy Clark Greeted Sikhs on the Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji

Canada(BC) – Gurupurab, the birth anniversary of First Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Devji was celebrated with great enthusiasm, gaiety and religious fervor in Surrey, Vancouver, Victoria, Abbotsford, Mission including all the gurudwaras in BC and across Canada.  All the gurudwaras and its surrounded areas with punjabi community were decorated to mark the birth anniversary of Guru. Thousands of devotees from punjabi community thronged the various gurudwaras in the brave chill on Thursday.

On account of Gurpurab, Premier Christy Clark told in her statement marking the birthday of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji “that she would like extend her best wishes to British Columbia’s & Canada’s Sikh community as they celebrate the birth of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

She also said that “Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji dedicated his life to the values that define the Sikh faith: the equality of all people, service to the community, humility, and the pursuit of truth. Those principles are ones we should all hold dear.

“On this happy occasion, she expressed that “I am grateful for the contributions of our Sikh friends and neighbours in communities throughout British Columbia & Canada.”

Long queues of devotees, men, women and children, were seen in and outside the gurudwaras right from early morning to pay obeisance on the occasion of Parkash Utsav. Some of the devotees were seen helping visitors to keep their shoes. Special “langars” were prepared on this pious occasion.
