New Delhi : The “Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari” initiative, set to be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 6th September 2024 in Surat, Gujarat, is a major step towards advancing water conservation efforts in India. This initiative aligns with the ongoing Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain campaign and emphasizes community participation as a critical component in achieving long-term water security.

Key Objectives:

  1. Community Involvement: The initiative focuses on engaging citizens, industries, local bodies, and various stakeholders in water conservation, fostering a sense of community ownership.
  2. Strengthening Water Conservation Efforts: It aims to enhance the scope of rainwater harvesting and sustainable water management through the construction of recharge structures to capture and store rainwater.
  3. Replication of Successful Models: Gujarat’s successful water conservation methods will serve as a model for other states and Union Territories, promoting CSR-driven projects and cross-state collaboration.
  4. National Priority for Water Conservation: The program highlights Prime Minister Modi’s vision of making water conservation a national mission, with every citizen playing an active role.

Background and Impact:

The initiative builds on the success of the Jal Shakti Abhiyan, launched in 2019, and its annual “Catch the Rain” campaigns, aimed at improving water security in water-stressed areas.
