Singapore : Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a warm and enthusiastic welcome from the Indian community upon his arrival in Singapore for a two-day visit. The visit comes after his trip to Brunei, where he engaged in significant diplomatic discussions. In Singapore, PM Modi’s presence was celebrated with much fanfare, with community members presenting him with a saffron-colored towel and even tying a Rakhi on his wrist as a gesture of respect and affection. The Prime Minister also joined in the celebrations by playing drums alongside the community members.
During his stay, PM Modi is scheduled to meet with prominent leaders, including President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, as well as key figures from Singapore’s business community. His visit is expected to further strengthen ties between India and Singapore, emphasizing collaboration in various sectors.
Earlier, in Brunei, PM Modi met with Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, where they discussed crucial issues such as defense, trade, education, technology, and health. The meeting also saw the signing of several MoUs, marking a step forward in the bilateral relations between India and Brunei. The leaders expressed mutual interest in enhancing cooperation within the ASEAN framework and agreed on the importance of regional development and stability, aligning with India’s Act East Policy and Indo-Pacific Vision.
PM Modi’s visit to Brunei also included a luncheon hosted by the Sultan at the world’s largest palace, Istana Nurul Iman, underscoring the warm relations between the two nations. This visit marks the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Brunei, highlighting the deep-rooted historical connections and the growing partnership between the two countries.
