PM Modi Oman Visit, Focus on Trade and Strategic Ties
Muscat, Oman | December 18, 2025
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Oman on Wednesday for a two-day official visit, where he is scheduled to hold talks with the Gulf nation’s top leadership. The visit is expected to culminate in the signing of an ambitious Free Trade Agreement (FTA) aimed at deepening economic and strategic ties between the two countries.
This marks the final leg of PM Modi’s three-nation tour and his second visit to Oman, coinciding with 70 years of diplomatic relations between India and Oman.
Warm Welcome and High-Level Meetings
At Muscat International Airport, PM Modi was received by Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs, Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said. The Indian prime minister was accorded a guard of honor, reflecting the strong bilateral relationship.
PM Modi is visiting Oman at the invitation of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq. During the visit, both leaders are expected to discuss ways to strengthen strategic cooperation, trade, investment, and economic engagement.
India–Oman Free Trade Agreement to Be Signed
The highlight of the visit will be the signing of the India–Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) on Thursday in PM Modi’s presence.
The Indian Cabinet approved the agreement last Friday. Formal negotiations began in November 2023 and concluded earlier this year, paving the way for enhanced market access, reduced tariffs, and stronger supply-chain integration between the two economies.
The CEPA is expected to significantly boost bilateral trade, investment flows, and employment opportunities, while reinforcing India’s economic footprint in the Gulf region.
Engagement With Indian Diaspora
Upon reaching Muscat, PM Modi received a grand welcome from members of the Indian community at his hotel. In a post on X, he thanked Oman’s leadership for the warm reception and said discussions focused on India–Oman friendship and future cooperation.
During his stay, PM Modi is also scheduled to address a gathering of the Indian diaspora, underlining the important role of overseas Indians in strengthening bilateral relations.
