Johannesburg : Prime Minister Narendra Modi has landed in Johannesburg to participate in the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit, marking the first-ever G20 meeting hosted in Africa. South Africa’s presidency emphasizes themes of Solidarity, Equality, and Sustainability, spotlighting African priorities alongside global economic challenges.
This summit, the fourth consecutive one held in the Global South, places critical issues like debt relief for developing nations, climate finance commitments, and global trade reforms at the center stage. Modi is expected to underscore India’s perspectives on sustainable development, digital public infrastructure, and the need for multilateral reforms to enhance global governance.
The absence of top-tier U.S. leadership signals notable shifts in geopolitical engagement at the summit, while discussions on emerging topics such as AI regulation and tariff adjustments reflect the evolving complexity amidst global economic uncertainties.
In addition to participating in key summit sessions, PM Modi will engage in strategic bilateral talks and collaborative meetings, including with the India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) group, reinforcing India’s active role in shaping the Global South’s development agenda on this historic platform.
