Bribery allegations against Gautam Adani were not discussed in Modi-Trump meeting: PM Modi gives clarification

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the bribery allegations against industrialist Gautam Adani were not discussed during his meeting with President Donald Trump. He said that when two global leaders meet, such personal matters are not discussed.

A case is going on against Adani in a US court

During the press conference at the White House, PM Modi was asked whether he raised the issue of the ongoing case against Adani and his key associates in a New York court for their involvement in alleged bribery.

On this, he said, ‘First of all, India is a democratic country and our culture and our philosophy is ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’. We consider the whole world as a family. I believe that every Indian is mine. Two prominent leaders of two countries never discuss such personal matters.’

Allegation of bribery against Adani

Trump did not mention this matter during the press conference. Last year, the US Justice Department accused Adani Group chief Gautam Adani, his nephew Sagar and Chief Executive Officer Vineet Jain of being part of an alleged conspiracy to bribe Indian officials of about Rs 2,100 crore. This bribe was allegedly given to get a contract for the supply of solar power. However, the Adani Group has rejected all the allegations.

Trump on Monday signed an executive order to stop the implementation of the nearly half-century-old Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. The bribery investigation against the Adani Group was initiated under this law. It is believed that Adani may get relief from this move of Trump.

India is not neutral on Ukraine war, in favor of peace

PM Modi welcomed the efforts of US President Trump to end the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia. Emphasizing that the solution to the conflict cannot be found on the battlefield and dialogue and diplomacy are the only way to peace. He said that India has not been neutral in the matter of war and is in favor of peace.

In a joint press conference with Trump, Modi said, ‘I have always been in close contact with Russia and Ukraine. I have met the leaders of both countries. The world thinks that India is neutral, but I want to reiterate that India has not been neutral.’

Ready to take Indians living illegally

During the meeting with Trump, Prime Minister Modi said that India is ready to take back its citizens if they are living illegally in America. He stressed the need to end the ecosystem of human trafficking.

The Prime Minister expressed confidence that President Trump will fully cooperate with India in ending this ecosystem. He said that people who live illegally in other countries have no legal right to live there. His statement has come at a time when America is going to deport 277 Indians living illegally in the next two days.
