After the Lok Sabha elections, onion prices are seeing a rise. In the last one week, onion prices have climbed by more than 50 percent. The government was already worried about onion prices. To control onion prices, the government had banned onion exports in December 2023. However, at the beginning of this financial year, the government lifted the ban.

Now the rise in onion prices in the retail market once again has created problems for the government along with the general public. It is worth noting that onion prices are rising. At the same time, potato prices are also increasing. The increase in the prices of potatoes and onions along with green vegetables in the summer season is bringing trouble to the general public. Onion has become expensive by 50 percent in a week.

On June 2, 2024, the price of onion in the retail market was Rs 25 to 30 per kg. Which increased to 35 to 40 rupees per kg on 9 June. On 11 June, the price of onion has gone up to 50 rupees per kg. In such a situation, the vegetable seller says that when onion is expensive in the market, then its price in the retail market will be even higher. On 25 May, the price of onion in Lasalgaon Mandi of Nashik, the largest market in the country, was 17 rupees per kg, which has now become 25 rupees.

At the same time, the price of the best quality onion has crossed 30 rupees. In such a situation, it is obvious that by the time it reaches Delhi from Nashik Mandi, the cost of 5-7 rupees per kg will be added. At the beginning of June, the price of potato was 20-25 rupees per kg, which has now become 35 to 40 rupees per kg. Bakra Eid is on 17 June.
