Postmortem of dead bodies will now be possible in Delhi hospitals even after sunset. In this regard, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has given instructions to the officials of the Health Department on Tuesday. With this decision, the relatives will not have to wait to get the dead body. Along with this, organ donation and transplantation will also be encouraged. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that due to the post-mortem being done at night, there would not be a long wait for the dead bodies. However, in case of suspicion of murder, suicide, rape or any foul play, a provision has been made to conduct post-mortem of dead bodies only during the day.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that the Delhi government had sent a proposal to the central government for approval to conduct post-mortem in hospitals after sunset. Such post mortems shall be carried out in hospitals which have adequate facilities to conduct them on a regular basis. Post mortem of cases related to organ donation will be done on priority basis. Earlier the dead bodies were kept safely in the mortuary during the night. Now the dead bodies arriving at the post mortem house at night will not have to wait for the next day to complete the process.
Sisodia said video recording of all the post mortems would be done throughout the night to remove any doubt. It will be preserved for the future. Apart from friends and relatives of the deceased, this new process will also encourage organ donation and transplantation. PLC/GT
