New Delhi,
A group of Northeast students from Delhi University called on Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh here yesterday for an informal interaction over a wide range of issues of their concern. The students were led by Hashokmi Kamkara, President of “Northeast Students’ Society Delhi University”.

Appreciating Dr Jitendra Singh for the manner in which he has struck a direct personal rapport with the youth and students from Northeast, Kamkara said that ever since Dr Jitendra Singh had taken over the Ministry of DoNER, the students felt very confident to approach him, even at short notice, without going through any formalities.

Dr Jitendra Singh informed the students that in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), the Ministry of DoNER had already acquired a piece of land in the campus and after some delay on account of Forest Department clearance from Delhi Administration, the land is now ready to be used for a Northeast hostel. Similarly, for the students of Delhi University, he said, the Ministry of DoNER had written to Vice-Chancellor, University of Delhi to identify a piece of land where a hostel could be brought up to accommodate Northeast students studying in different colleges affiliated with Delhi University.

Responding to another suggestion by students, Dr Jitendra Singh said, he saw merit in the demand that, in the Guest Houses in Delhi of eight States of Northeast, a certain priority can be earmarked for accommodating the needy patients from these States or the poor students who come to Delhi to appear in different exams. He said, this issue will shortly be taken up with the Delhi based Resident Commissioners (RCs) of North Eastern States.

The students were highly appreciative of the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s advice to encourage tours by students from other States to Northeast and said, this practice has proved very fruitful and should be carried forward in future as well.
