The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken custody of four additional prime suspects in the November 10 car blast outside Delhi’s historic Red Fort, bringing the total number of arrests to six. The explosion, which left 15 people dead and several others critically injured, is now being linked to a growing pattern of radicalization among highly educated youth.
According to investigators, the newly arrested individuals include two qualified doctors, a preacher, and another key associate, all suspected of playing crucial roles in planning and executing the attack. Several of the accused reportedly have roots in Kashmir and are believed to have used their professional expertise to support the plot.
Educated Youth Turning to Terror: A Disturbing Trend
In submissions before the Supreme Court during related bail hearings—including the high-profile Umar Khalid matter—Delhi Police highlighted a “concerning trend” in which engineers, medical professionals, and other educated individuals are abandoning established careers to join extremist networks.
Officials say this phenomenon is complicating counterterror operations, as these individuals often possess advanced technical knowledge that can be weaponized for sophisticated attacks.
Blast Linked to Radical Network
Preliminary findings indicate that the Red Fort blast was orchestrated by a radicalized group with transnational elements. The vehicle used in the explosion was packed with high-grade explosives, suggesting involvement of skilled handlers. Investigators are probing financial trails, digital communication, and possible foreign support behind the attack.
The NIA believes the suspects arrested this week were instrumental in logistics, funding channels, and coordination with external handlers.
Pilot Investigation Expands
Sources reveal that interrogation of the newly arrested accused is expected to shed more light on the recruitment pipeline, radicalization channels, and use of professional credentials in terror activities.
The agency is also examining whether similar modules are active in other states and whether the Red Fort attack was part of a larger coordinated plan.
