Mystery Fever in Gujarat: 12 Dead, Medical Teams Deployed for Investigation

“A mysterious fever has resulted in 12 deaths, including four children, in Lakhpat taluka, Gujarat. Authorities have deployed 22 medical teams and are investigating possible causes including H1N1 and dengue.”

Ahmedabad : Mystery fever has killed 12 people, including four children below the age of 12, in Lakhpat taluka of Kutch district in Gujarat. The primary cause of death appears to be pneumonitis, officials said. Medical services have been beefed up in the taluka, located near the Pakistan border.

22 surveillance teams and doctors have been deployed here and samples are being collected from residents to rule out the possibility of spread of H1N1, swine flu, Crimean-Congo fever, malaria and dengue. 22 health department teams are working in the affected areas, including teams brought on deputation from two community health centres and rapid response teams of Rajkot PDU Medical College.
