The meeting of the Board of Management of the Institute of Correctional Administration (ICA), Chandigarh was held today in the Committee Room of the Institute of Correctional Administration, Chandigarh under the Chairpersonship of Mrs. B. Bhamathi, IAS, Additional Secretary (CS), Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi. Mr. Ram Niwas, IAS, Home Secretary, Chandigarh Administration-cum-Director, ICA ,apprised Mrs. Bhamathi about the activities of the Institute and deliberated upon the various issues pertaining to the Institute. The meeting was attended by senior functionaries from the MHA, BPR&D, Heads of Prison Departments of the States of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, and Himachal Pradesh.
The issues related to training of prison officers for different States and improving the effectiveness of training were discussed in the meeting. The MHA has also issued advisories related to Non Official Visitors (NOVs) and reducing congestion in prisons. The Chandigarh Administration has appointed the NOVs and a Workshop to sensitize them about their roles and duties was organized by the Institute. This was appreciated by the Board. The Chairperson appreciated the working of the Institute and asked the Board members to help the Institute grow professionally. It was also decided to have more outreach training programmes and field visits to the States in order to expose the participants to the best prison practices.

Sharma, Deputy Inspector General of Prisons, Tihar, New Delhi; Dr. Praveen Kumari Singh, Director (SR), Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi; Dr. Upneet Lalli, Deputy Director, Institute of Correctional Administration, Chandigarh; Mr. Kapil Sharma, S.P. (Prisons), Himachal Pradesh, Shimla; and Mr. Surjit Singh; Superintendent of Jails, Punjab Civil Sectt. Chandigarh.
