The Indian security forces have achieved a significant breakthrough in their ongoing anti-Naxal operation along the Chhattisgarh border. Reports confirm that more than 40 Maoists have been killed in a fierce encounter that erupted between the security forces and the Maoists in the dense forest regions bordering the Narayanpur and Dantewada districts.

Ongoing Maoist Encounter Along Narayanpur-Dantewada Border

The encounter between the security forces and Maoists started in the highly Naxal-affected areas of Narayanpur and Dantewada, Chhattisgarh. According to sources, the security forces were conducting a routine anti-Naxal operation when they were fired upon by a group of heavily armed Maoists. Acting swiftly, the security personnel launched a counteroffensive, leading to the deaths of over 40 insurgents. At present, the exact number of casualties remains unclear as the operation is still ongoing, and nightfall has obscured visibility in the area.

14 Bodies Recovered So Far as Battle Continues

As of now, the security forces have recovered 14 Maoist bodies from the scene of the encounter. However, the operation continues, with intermittent gunfire heard throughout the region. Given the dense terrain and limited visibility, it is expected that the full scale of the operation will become clearer by morning. Authorities suspect that the final death toll could surpass 40, with many more bodies yet to be recovered.

The troops involved in the operation have also reported the seizure of a large cache of sophisticated weapons from the Maoist stronghold. Among the recovered arms are AK-47s, Self-Loading Rifles (SLRs), and several other automatic firearms, underscoring the gravity of the threat posed by these insurgents.

Security Forces’ Successful Counter-Offensive

Upon receiving intelligence reports of Maoist activity in the area, the security forces launched a coordinated counter-Naxal mission. The Maoists, well-prepared and in significant numbers, initiated the gunfire. However, the quick response of the security personnel turned the tide of the battle in favor of the forces. The exchange of fire continues in bursts as security forces clear the area and comb the forest for hidden insurgents.

Despite the heavy engagement, all security personnel are reported to be safe. Their successful response has been praised for neutralizing a major Maoist presence in the region, likely including several high-profile insurgents with large bounties on their heads.

High-Profile Maoist Leaders Among the Dead?

Unofficial sources indicate that some of the insurgents killed in the encounter might include high-ranking Maoist commanders. In particular, the dismantling of the Maoists’ “Company No. 6” unit, a prominent force in the insurgency, has been hailed as a massive success. The death of these leaders would deal a substantial blow to the insurgents’ organizational structure and capabilities in Chhattisgarh.

Authorities Expect Clarity by Morning

According to Bastar Division Inspector General (IG) P. Sundarraj, the operation is still ongoing, with frequent gunfire exchanges taking place. Sundarraj confirmed that more updates regarding the number of casualties, the identification of key Maoist figures, and the full extent of the weaponry seized will emerge by morning. Given the cover of night, much of the activity remains hidden, but security forces are determined to continue until the area is fully secured.

A Landmark Victory in the Fight Against Naxalism

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel lauded the courage and determination of the security personnel involved in the operation. He called the encounter a significant milestone in the state’s ongoing battle against Maoist insurgents. The Chief Minister paid tribute to the bravery and dedication of the security forces, emphasizing that the government’s commitment to eradicating Naxalism remains unwavering.

Baghel further stressed that the fight against Naxalism will not cease until peace is restored in Chhattisgarh. He assured the people that his government, backed by the central leadership, remains resolute in its mission to eliminate this insurgency. The CM commended the “double-engine government” for its strong stand against Maoism, vowing that the efforts will continue until the insurgents are fully defeated.
