Mahavir Jayanti 2023  Celebrating the Life and Teachings of Lord Mahavi : Mahavir Jayanti, a significant festival for Jains, is celebrated every year on the Trayodashi date of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month. This year, Mahavir Jayanti falls on April 4th. Lord Mahavir, the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism, was born in Kundagram, Bihar, and his childhood name was Vardhaman. He renounced the pleasures of the royal palace and went towards the forests to seek truth at the age of 30. After twelve years of severe penance in the dense forests, Lord Mahavir attained Kaivalya Gyan under the Sal tree on the banks of the Rijubaluka river.

Significance of Mahavir Jayanti

Mahavir Jayanti is a day to commemorate the birth of Lord Mahavir and celebrate his teachings. Lord Mahavir established five principles for human beings to attain salvation, which are known as Pancha Siddhanta. These principles are non-violence, asteya, brahmacharya, satya, and aparigraha. People of Jain religion take out Prabhat Pheri, rituals, and processions on this day. Lord Mahavira is worshipped, and his teachings are remembered by the followers. Religious programs and events are organized to celebrate this festival.

Mahavir Jayanti 2023 Auspicious Time

As per the Panchang, the Trayodashi date of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month will begin on April 3rd, 2023, at 06:24 am and end on April 4th, 2023, at 08:05 am. Since Udaya Tithi is being received on April 4th, Mahavir Jayanti will be celebrated on that day only.
