New Delhi,
Raising the issue of Manipur Tribal youths, who have been staging a “Coffin Dharna’ at Jantar Mantar , New Delhi since September last, BJP MP Tarun Vijay said in Rajya Sabha that the best homage to Late PA Sangma would be to win the hearts of the Northeast and let them feel that Delhi listens to them.
This issue was discussed today during Zero hour.
He said that its disheartening that since September last, when nine Manipuri tribal youths were killed in a police shoot out while protesting against the state govt’s highhanded ness and passing three bills without any discussion or consultation with tribal groups, no enquiry has been instituted and neither the state police has lodged an FIR about it. The families of the nine youths killed have refused to bury their dead till they get an assurance to satisfy their demands.
Vijay said that they are our own children, and they should be respected. He thanked Home Minister Rajnath Singh for agreeing to meet the students ;last December , still no progress has been made since then. Are they not our citizens? Think how a sensitive area Manipur is seething with anger that their dead have not been buried by their parents. Can you imagine the pains and anguish of their hearts? Its high time that centre must intervene and constitute a committee to look into their demands so that the Manipuri tribal feel they have a listening post in Delhi, Vijay said.
