Dehradun: After a few days of respite, the rains brought havoc in Uttarakhand on Friday night. Cloudburst occurred in Pauri and Uttarkashi districts in a single night. To avoid the flood, people were seen running here and there throughout the night. Many houses, shops, vehicles, fields, barns, bridges and roads were washed away. It is a matter of relief that there was no news of any casualty in both the districts in this calamity. The process of opening and closing of Chardham Yatra routes continued from Friday night due to landslides caused by rains.

Due to this, thousands of passengers kept waiting for the road to open at various places. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of partly cloudy sky in the state on Saturday. There may be heavy showers at some places in Dehradun, Uttarkashi and Bageshwar. On the other hand, the river Kota in Laldhang of Haridwar came in spate on Saturday. During this, a bus full of passengers of Uttar Pradesh Transport got stuck in the middle of the river. Due to this, the lives of 70 passengers came in jeopardy.

For the time being, the bus was stopped in the river with the help of a crane and the passengers were safely evacuated. In Uttarakhand’s border district Uttarkashi, incidents of heavy rains and cloud bursts have been reported at many places on Friday night. Between 2.30 and 3 pm, cloud bursts and heavy rains were reported in Nandgaon and sub-tehsil Dhauntri area of district Purola Barkot. Lian and Makan shops have been damaged.
