Srinagar: Security forces have launched massive coordinated operations across Jammu and Kashmir, targeting suspected militant hideouts in a sweeping counterterror campaign. The intensified action follows fresh intelligence inputs about cross-border infiltration attempts from Pakistan-occupied territories.
According to officials, two militants were neutralized in overnight encounters in Pulwama and Kupwara districts, while several arms and ammunition caches were recovered during simultaneous search operations across multiple locations in south and north Kashmir. The operations were jointly conducted by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the CRPF under heightened alert conditions.
“We had credible inputs of infiltration and regrouping attempts by foreign militants. The operations are ongoing, and more searches are being carried out in forested and border areas,” a senior police official told reporters in Srinagar.
Recovered materials reportedly include assault rifles, grenades, satellite phones, and encrypted communication devices, suggesting links to Pakistan-based terror outfits. Officials say the seizures provide further evidence of renewed efforts by cross-border handlers to destabilize the region ahead of the winter closure of infiltration routes.
The Kashmir Zone Police confirmed that cordon-and-search operations (CASO) have been intensified in Baramulla, Shopian, and Anantnag districts as part of a broader crackdown on overground workers (OGWs) providing logistical support to militant groups. Several suspects have been detained for questioning.
The surge in operations comes just weeks after India’s intelligence agencies warned of heightened infiltration attempts across the Line of Control (LoC) before heavy snowfall seals high-altitude passes. Defense analysts say Pakistan-based groups are likely trying to push in cadres and weapons before winter conditions make movement nearly impossible.
“This preemptive action by Indian forces underscores a proactive security posture,” said Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Sanjay Kulkarni, a defense expert. “The goal is to dismantle sleeper cells and choke supply routes before they can trigger coordinated attacks.”
Officials added that no civilian casualties were reported during the operations, and additional security checkpoints have been set up along major highways. The situation remains tense but under control, with forces maintaining a high state of vigilance across sensitive areas.
The intensified security push reflects New Delhi’s broader zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism, aiming to disrupt infiltration networks and ensure peace ahead of the upcoming winter season.
