New Delhi, November 10: The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, one of India’s most iconic sports arenas, is set for a historic transformation as the Sports Ministry announced plans to redevelop it into a state-of-the-art “Sports City.” The project aims to create a modern, athlete-centric complex equipped with international-level training, accommodation, and event facilities.
Officials said the redevelopment will not only revitalize Delhi’s sporting infrastructure but also position the capital as a global sports hub ahead of major upcoming events. The plan includes modern indoor arenas, advanced rehabilitation centers, digital fitness zones, and a green campus to promote sustainability.
The initiative aligns with the government’s broader mission to boost sports infrastructure under the Khelo India and Fit India programs, providing athletes with facilities comparable to the best in the world. “The vision is to make Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium a one-stop destination for sports excellence, training, and global tournaments,” a senior official said.
Once completed, the Sports City is expected to host national and international competitions, training camps, and youth development programs — serving as a catalyst for India’s long-term sporting growth.
