Chennai,  – In a night of shattered hopes and rising tempers at Chepauk, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) created an unwanted record by losing their fifth consecutive match in IPL history, including three straight losses at their fortress, Chepauk. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), riding high on Sunil Narine’s all-round blitz, registered a thumping eight-wicket win in just 10.1 overs, jumping to third place in the points table.

Sunil Narine starred with both bat and ball — a three-wicket haul and a blazing 44 off 18 balls — as CSK crumbled for just 103/9 in 20 overs, marking their lowest-ever first innings score at Chepauk and second-lowest overall at the venue. In reply, KKR made a mockery of the target, chasing it down in just 61 balls, the third-fastest 100+ chase in IPL history.

CSK’s Chepauk Fortress Breached

The defeat marks a significant moment in IPL 2025, as CSK — a team known for dominance at home — lost three back-to-back matches at Chepauk for the first time. With only one win in six matches, the five-time champions now find themselves slipping to 9th place, with just 2 points.

KKR’s Fast and Furious Chase

Opening with Narine and Quinton de Kock, KKR set the tone early. The duo smashed 46 runs in just 25 balls before Anshul Kamboj dismissed de Kock (23 off 16). Narine, however, continued the carnage with five sixes and two boundaries. He fell just shy of a half-century, dismissed by Noor Ahmed at 44, but by then, the job was nearly done.

Captain Ajinkya Rahane (20* off 17) and Rinku Singh (15* off 12) calmly finished the chase, with Rinku launching the winning six off Ravindra Jadeja.

CSK Batting Collapse: Shivam Dubey Stands Alone

Winning the toss, KKR chose to bowl and unleashed their bowling firepower. CSK’s innings never took off, and only Shivam Dubey stood tall with a gritty 31 off 29 balls*. No other batsman crossed 30, with five players failing to reach double digits and two dismissed for ducks.

Former skipper MS Dhoni, leading the side after Ruturaj Gaikwad’s injury, came in at No. 9 and managed just 1 run off 4 balls before being dismissed in the 16th over.

Narine Leads Bowling Charge

Narine was the standout bowler, grabbing 3 wickets for minimal runs, well-supported by Varun Chakravarthy and Harshit Rana, who took two wickets each. Moeen Ali and Vaibhav Arora chipped in with a wicket apiece as CSK registered one of their worst-ever batting performances.

Points Table Shake-Up

  • KKR now have 6 points (3 wins, 3 losses) and sit comfortably in third place.

  • CSK, with 5 straight defeats, are languishing at ninth.

  • Gujarat Titans continue to lead the table, followed by Delhi Capitals.

What’s Next?

With Ruturaj Gaikwad out due to injury and the team’s confidence visibly shaken, CSK now face a must-win scenario in their upcoming matches if they hope to salvage their 2025 campaign.

KKR, on the other hand, seem to be regaining momentum, with Narine proving once again why he remains a game-changer in the IPL circuit.
