The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants against prominent global figures, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and Hamas leader Mohammed Deif. This significant legal development has captured international attention, raising questions about its implications and the potential for enforcement. Here’s a detailed look into the case, the accusations, and the broader geopolitical impact.

The ICC said that it is not necessary for Israel to accept the jurisdiction of this court. That is, the ICC can implement its decision even if Israel does not accept the process of this court. ICC prosecutor Karim Khan had demanded arrest warrants against Netanyahu, Galant, Deif and two other Hamas leaders Ismail Haniya and Yahya Sinwar in May. However, Hamas leaders like Haniya and Sinwar have now been killed. Advertisement

According to the ICC, Deep is accused of committing crimes against humanity such as murder, persecution, torture and rape. At the same time, Netanyahu and Galant are accused of committing war crimes such as making hunger a method of war and attacking civilians.

Hamas attackers attacked southern Israel on October 7, 2023. About 1,200 people were killed in this attack. Also, more than two hundred and fifty people were taken hostage in Gaza. After this, Israel launched a military operation to eliminate Hamas, in which more than 44 thousand people have been killed so far.

On this decision, Israeli President Isaac Herzog said that this decision of the ICC has become a joke. The decision has gone in favor of terrorism. Meanwhile, Palestinian leader Mustafa Barghouti welcomed the arrest warrant against Netanyahu and Galant and urged the ICC to take a quick decision on the genocide case against Israel.
