REC has signed MOU with Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee for institution of REC chair in the institute for carrying out research and development work in the field of developing new and emerging technologies in rural electrification with a view to harness the knowledge and insight and skill of technical professionals for larger cause of making power available in the remote rural areas on sustainable and affordable manner. The MOU was signed on behalf of REC by Shri.Vinod Behari, Executive Director (HR) and Prof.P.K.Ghosh, Dean (Finance & Planning) on behalf of IIT, Roorkee. REC, a Government of India Navaratna Enterprise, is providing financial assistance for Rural Electrification / System Improvement / Augmentation and all types of power generation, transmission and distribution projects which inter-alia includes term loan, debt refinancing, etc. Further, REC is the Nodal agency of Government of India for Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) and National Electricity Fund (NEF).
