Inflation, not india-us relations : Survey reveals top election issue for indian americans

Washington – Preparations for the presidential election to be held on November 5 in the US have almost been completed and the remaining ones are being completed with full vigor. The main contest in this election is between Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. Meanwhile, a recent survey to know the views of Indian-American voters shows what is the important issue of this election.

According to a survey conducted in the US, Indian-Americans have described inflation as the biggest election issue. 17 percent of the respondents in the survey considered inflation or prices to be the top issue. Apart from this, abortion, reproductive rights and jobs/economy have also been included in the important issues, for which 13 percent of the people have expressed support. Party division has also been clearly seen in the survey. 39 percent of Republican respondents have described economy, prices and jobs as their primary concern, while this figure was only 24 percent among Democratic respondents. Those who considered abortion as the most important issue included 19 percent Democrats and 5 percent Republicans. 714 Indian-American citizens participated in this online survey between September 18 and October 15, 2024. Among other issues included in this survey, immigration has been described as the top issue by 10 percent, healthcare by 9 percent, climate change and environment by 8 percent, civil liberties by 7 percent and crime by 6 percent. India-US relations have also been prioritized by 4 percent of the respondents, while education and national security have also been considered equally important by 4 percent of the people.

Indian-American voters are deeply concerned about inflation and economic issues
Thus the essence of the survey was that Indian-American voters are deeply concerned about inflation and economic issues. Along with this, social issues like abortion and reproductive rights are also a matter of concern for them. In such a situation, the contribution of Indian-American voters in the US elections can prove to be important, especially when they have made up their mind to vote based on their priorities.
