Several parts of North and West India are expected to experience severe winter conditions on January 1, 2026, with forecasts pointing to biting cold, dense fog, and light rainfall, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Regional Weather Forecast

Delhi-NCR:
Cloudy skies are expected to persist throughout the day, with light rain possible in isolated areas. Morning hours may see moderate to dense fog, impacting visibility. The maximum temperature is likely to range between 14°C and 16°C, while the minimum may hover around 9°C to 11°C.

Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana:
These states are likely to remain under “cold day” conditions, with daytime temperatures staying unusually low. Light drizzle is possible in parts of western Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana.

Himalayan Region:
A fresh western disturbance is expected to bring snowfall and light to moderate rain to higher elevations in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, potentially affecting travel in mountainous areas.

Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh:
Some regions of Rajasthan may receive light rainfall, while dense fog is likely to persist across parts of Madhya Pradesh, especially during early morning hours.

Other Regions:
Mumbai has also reported unseasonal light rainfall on the first day of the year. In Telangana, cold wave–like conditions may continue in select districts.

IMD Warning and Advisory

The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for several parts of North India, warning that dense fog could significantly reduce visibility. Disruptions to rail, road, and air traffic are possible, especially during morning hours.

Residents are advised to stay updated through official IMD bulletins and take necessary precautions while traveling.
