India and the United States are actively engaged in trade and tariff negotiations, with both nations aiming to finalize a mutually beneficial and balanced trade agreement. Speaking in an interview, Indian Ambassador to the US Vinay Mohan Kwatra emphasized that space collaboration has become a key pillar of India-US relations.
Kwatra highlighted India’s successful launch of a US communications satellite and landmark initiatives such as the Axiom-4 mission and the NISAR mission as milestones that have strengthened bilateral space cooperation. He noted that India remains in regular contact with the US Trade Representative (USTR) to advance trade discussions.
Strategic Direction Set During PM Modi’s US Visit
The ambassador explained that the direction of India-US relations for 2025 was shaped during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the US in February, where the two nations reached comprehensive agreements across multiple sectors, with space collaboration emerging as a focal area.
Broad-Based Cooperation in Trade, Technology, and AI
Kwatra further stated that India and the US are actively expanding collaboration in trade, science, technology, and artificial intelligence (AI). Extensive discussions are ongoing to ensure strong US participation in India’s upcoming AI Action Summit.
India will host the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi on February 19–20, 2026, marking the first such summit in the Global South. The ambassador emphasized that technology has become a central pillar of India-US relations, reflecting the growing strategic and economic partnership between the two nations.
