India Optimistic on Landmark Trade Deal with Oman as China Welcomes Faster Business Visas

Narendra Modi

New Delhi / Beijing : India has expressed strong optimism about concluding an ambitious trade agreement with Oman during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming official visit, signaling a major step forward in strengthening economic ties with the Gulf nation.

According to government sources, negotiations are focused on tariff reductions and expanded market access, aimed at boosting bilateral trade across key sectors such as energy, manufacturing, logistics, and services. The proposed deal is expected to enhance India’s footprint in the Middle East while supporting its long-term trade and export growth strategy.

In a separate but significant diplomatic development, China welcomed India’s decision to fast-track business visas for Chinese professionals, calling the move “positive.” Responding to the announcement, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said the step would help facilitate short-term business travel and strengthen cooperation, particularly in technology and commercial sectors.

The visa easing is being viewed as a confidence-building measure amid gradually improving India-China relations, especially in the economic domain. Analysts say smoother mobility for professionals could help revive business engagements that slowed in recent years.

Meanwhile, in domestic corporate news, IndiGo Airlines disclosed that it has received a ₹59 crore penalty notice from tax authorities related to GST issues. The airline has stated that it will contest the penalty, maintaining that its tax filings comply with existing regulations.

Together, the developments reflect India’s dual focus on expanding global trade partnerships while managing regulatory and diplomatic challenges at home and abroad.
