The Indian Consulate General in Toronto said in a statement, the Consulate had to cancel some more consular camps after security agencies expressed their inability to provide minimum security amid threats. Most of these were not to be held at religious places. One camp was to be held at a police facility. More than 4,000 Indian and Canadian senior citizens in the Greater Toronto Area are unable to get the necessary consular services.
This decision has been taken a few days after the incident of attack on devotees by Khalistani extremists at the Hindu Sabha Temple in Brampton. Earlier this month, Khalistani supporters disrupted the consular program organized by Indian officials at the Hindu temple in Brampton. Khalistani extremists beat up people with sticks outside the temple. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau strongly condemned the incident. Apart from this, Khalistani extremists carried out several violent attacks at consular camps in Brampton, Surrey and Vancouver.
Meanwhile, the Indian Consulate canceled the consular camps scheduled in Canada due to security reasons. Security agencies had informed the Indian Consulate officials that they were not able to provide minimum security to the organizers of the camp.
