New Delhi, April 21, 2025 – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued fresh weather advisories across the country for Monday, April 21. From unseasonal rainfall in the northern plains to heatwave warnings in central and eastern regions, large parts of India are witnessing volatile weather patterns that could impact travel, agriculture, and daily life.
North India: Rain, Thunderstorms and Dust Storms Expected
Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Rajasthan are likely to witness thunderstorms with gusty winds (30–40 km/h), light to moderate rainfall, and possible dust storms today, according to the IMD’s latest bulletin.
Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 21°C with cloudy skies expected throughout the day.
Western Uttar Pradesh may witness rainfall accompanied by lightning and gusty winds.
Dust storms in Rajasthan may reduce visibility in cities like Jaipur and Jodhpur during late afternoon hours.

The mercury continues to soar in central India, with severe heatwave conditions reported in parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Vidarbha region of Maharashtra.
Bhopal and Nagpur are expected to touch 43°C–44°C, prompting health advisories for outdoor exposure.
IMD has advised people to avoid direct sunlight between 12 PM to 4 PM and stay hydrated.
South India: Hot and Humid With Isolated Showers in Kerala
While most of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka remain dry and hot, Kerala is expected to receive scattered rainfall due to moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea.
Chennai will remain hot and humid at 39°C, with no major weather changes forecasted.
Hyderabad and Bengaluru are likely to see partly cloudy skies with temperatures ranging between 36°C–38°C.
East and Northeast India: Thunderstorms, Lightning in Assam and West Bengal
West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh may experience moderate to heavy rainfall, with lightning and isolated thunderstorms in the evening hours.
Kolkata may witness evening showers, bringing relief from the rising heat.
IMD warns of possible localized flooding in low-lying areas of Assam and Meghalaya.
Western India: Heatwave Alert for Gujarat and Maharashtra
In western India, especially Saurashtra and Kutch regions of Gujarat, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for heatwave conditions. Day temperatures are likely to remain above 42°C, with dry northwesterly winds exacerbating heat stress.
Air Quality Index (AQI): Delhi and Mumbai Show Slight Improvement
Thanks to brief showers and gusty winds, Delhi’s AQI has improved marginally to the ‘moderate’ category. Meanwhile, Mumbai’s AQI remains in the ‘satisfactory’ range as sea breeze keeps pollutants in check.
What to Expect Tomorrow?
The IMD forecasts a continuation of thunderstorms in North and Northeast India.
Central and Western India will continue to sizzle under severe heat conditions.
Southern parts may get temporary respite through evening showers in coastal belts.
IMD Advisory for Citizens
