IMD Forecasts Cooler Nights as Temperatures Dip Across Northwest and Central India

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a notable drop of 2–5°C in night temperatures across northwest and central India over the next few days, signaling the onset of a cooler phase ahead of winter’s full arrival.

According to the IMD, regions including Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh are likely to experience cooler nights through Monday, driven by changing wind patterns and clearer skies that enhance radiational cooling.

🌬️ Changing Wind Patterns Bring Relief

Meteorologists said the prevailing northwesterly winds are carrying dry and cool air masses, helping push down nighttime temperatures across several states.
Some areas in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh may see minimums dipping below 15°C, while isolated parts of Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh could record early winter chills.

“The weather shift marks a transition phase before a more pronounced cold wave sets in later this month,” said a senior IMD official.

🌆 Cities to Feel the Change

Residents in Delhi, Nagpur, Raipur, and Bhopal are expected to experience noticeably cooler evenings and early mornings, prompting officials to advise light winter clothing for early commuters and outdoor workers.

🌦️ Outlook for the Week

The IMD added that no major rainfall activity is expected during this period, with dry conditions likely to prevail across most of northern and central India.
A further drop in temperatures could occur by midweek if clear-sky conditions persist.
