National Conference on “Future Technology Trends in the Automotive Sector” was held on 23rd February 2011 at Westin Hotel, Pune. The conference was focused on the Emerging Advance Technology in Automobile covering various topics – trends in light weighting of Automobiles, Electric Water Pump technology, Optimizing HVAC performance and cost for the Indian market, trends in Hybrids/Electric vehicles, emerging trends in Vehicle Electronics and Automotive Technology trends 2020. The conference was in conjunction with the visit of the Australian delegation to discuss and explore points of engagements with the Indian automotive industry.
At the occasion, Mr Arvind Kapur, President, ACMA, said, “I am delighted to announce that ACMA-WR is organizing this National Conference on a very pertinent subject – “Future Technology Trends in the Automotive Sector”. Today, a majority of vehicles and components are developed overseas, creating a gap in local knowledge and expertise. Consequently, the Indian auto component industry is largely a ‘build to print’ industry. The industry needs to invest in technology and scale capacity to support local automotive industry growth. India possesses a competitive advantage in its low-cost, high-quality engineering capabilities and it needs to maintain and further enhance its competitiveness. In a price sensitive industry, margins are under constant pressure due to the increasing input costs, the only way to hold the head above water is to focus on value-addition by indulging in new technologies, focusing on new product development, deploying newer and improved processes etc. We urgently need access to right technologies, which are in-line with green manufacturing, a trend gaining fast acceptance the world-over.”
Chief Guest Dr Abhay Firodia, in his address mentioned that, India a global manufacturing hub for small vehicles; urgently need to focus on future technology trends. It is a daunting challenge to perform within constraints but Indian engineers and entrepreneurs have managed to work, sustain and achieve success inspite of the limitations. There exist multiple opportunities that can be explored to work jointly between India and Australia to further our technological expertise.”
